Downtime over, we're back!

Hi FYers,

Some of you may have noticed that over the last week or so the site had been down. This was due to our last server solution having an almost catastrophic meltdown.

We were quick to respond and we've now moved to a more stable server solution. We're now up and running again! :)

We're sorry for any inconvenience caused. We've taken steps to protect ourselves from this happening again.

Thanks for sticking by us. If you do notice any errors or have any feedback on the site, then please do let us know and we'll provide the fix.

Thanks and sorry again,

The FutureYear Team.

Behind the scenes...

Just before you thought we'd gone a little quiet in the FutureYear offices! We thought we'd mention that we've been really busy over the last couple weeks working on behind the scenes advancements to the site!

We've been tweaking and refining elements of the platform but we've also had chance to introduce email notifications.

So you're never second guessing we've introduced email notifications for the following instances when:

- someone tracks you

- a Facebook friend joins FutureYear

- someone you follow on Twitter joins FutureYear

someone attends a plan you've added

someone comments on a plan you're attending

All of these notifications are controllable in your Settings page so that you can turn them ON or OFF.

We have a lot more to show you in the coming weeks, so stay tuned!

The Team @ FutureYear

Just joined FutureYear? Getting started, here is where to begin....

Sign in to FutureYear at www.futureyear.com

1. Let’s start by adding a profile picture. To do this visit settings in the top right hand corner.

2. If you didn’t sign up using your Facebook or Twitter account, now is a good time to connect them too whilst in settings.

3. In the same menu, visit ‘Find friends from Facebook/Twitter’. This will give you a list of your friends from Facebook/Twitter who are already on FutureYear. Click to ‘Track’ them.

4. Now for the exciting bit, visit Home. The Home feed will now start to show you what you’re friends are up to in the future by way of the plans they’ve added. You can comment or attend any of these plans. By attending a friend’s plan this adds it to your FutureYear Profile which is where we’ll visit next.

5. Profile page, here is your page on FutureYear. This is where everyone can see what you have planned. Lets add a plan to this now. Click +Plan and add in details for the plan.

6. If you want to discover new plans and what is going on around the world, find new accounts to track or what is happening right now across FutureYear visit ‘Discover’

We’ve hopefully by now given you a little taster of what FutureYear is, and we hope you’re as excited as we are!

Attend any plan in the world!

Today we've launched a game changing feature to FutureYear! 'Attend'!

Screen_shot_2011-09-26_at_17

From today, any plan you see on the site you can now click the +attend button and that plan will be added to your FutureYear profile. If you see something that takes your fancy that you'd like to go to, all you need to do is click the magic button!

This is great if you're organising a house party as you're friends don't have to create their own individual plan, they can just join yours! Attend is even better for promoting events though...create a plan, your trackers see it in their home page, they can click attend and then all of their trackers see it too - great for promoting!

It's already live so try it out for yourself at www.futureyear.com :)

We've also been busy with another feature too...

You can now add a @ or # in the more information tab in a plan or in any comment. Put an @ before someone's username, for example @futureyear and this will create a link to the FutureYear profile page. Put a # in front of any word and it creates a link to automatically search for that phrase in the search results page.

We still have lots more to come...so watch this space!

Until next time...

'Discover' your FutureYear

We've just launched a new addition to FutureYear - the 'Discover' section!

We're very excited to annouce this new feature, 'Discover' gives you the chance to find new plans added on FutureYear by profiles you don't yet track. It's a great way to see what's going on around you in the coming days, weeks, and months so you don't miss out.

The 'Discover' section makes suggestions of featured profiles on FutureYear to track. So even if you're friends aren't as cool as you and are not yet on FutureYear ;) you can track interesting profiles to find out what is going on in the future!

The activity feed in the 'Discover' section shows the most recent activity from across the whole site so you can stay up to date with exactly what people are talking about and what new plans they're adding.

In the coming few weeks we will be adding more to the new 'Discover' section to make it even more relevant to you.

Until next time,

The FutureYear Team

3, 2, 1 - Launch! FutureYear goes live today!

We've just launched FutureYear to the public today!

We're now in public beta and have lots more features planned for the website in the new future.

Signup today and reserve your username at http://www.futureyear.com

If you're still a little unsure as to what its all about...

Where FutureYear fits in...

Your future! You have Facebook for catching up with past friends made and viewing past photos etc. Twitter is all about the present, what is happening right now around the world. FutureYear looks beyond your past and present and asks what are you and your friends doing in the future.

FutureYear is all about your next 12 months...

Broadcast what you have planned, where you'll be around the world, and what your ambitions are for the next year. Share with friends, even if they're just ideas at the moment!

It all starts with your profile page. Here you can post what you have planned into an organised timeline so that friends and contacts can discover what you have in store for your next week, next month and even next year.

On creation of a FutureYear profile, you can begin to track other profiles. Whether you track friends or business profiles, all upcoming events posted to these profiles you track will appear in your home page. Here you can stay up to date with whats coming up in the lives of friends, businesses, or groups.

Bored next weekend? Use the Explore feature. Search for events by date, topic or location to find stuff to do locally in your area or even further afield.

FutureYear is perfectly suited towards businesses and groups too who wish to promote their exciting dates or promotions coming up. As a brief example of how we see this being great for business we have a outlined a few potential uses:

- A clothing store may want to inform its customers of sales it has on, or when a new range is in

- A coffee shop may want to promote special offers on particular days to drive sales

- A nightclub may want to share its diary of nights and DJs coming up

- A scout leader can post activity days and provide the link to its scouts

- An event organiser may want an open and public centralised profile to show upcoming events

- A local football team may want to post a season’s fixtures and the locations of away fixtures

For businesses and groups, the great benefit with FutureYear is that its open. Users don’t have to be registered to view a profile. Businesses and groups sharing the link to their FutureYear profile is the first and only step needed to promote their future events, activities, fixtures, offers and more.

Comments, activity, creation!

Well we've been very busy over the past couple of weeks.

FutureYear is now sporting a new comments system! You can now comment on any event on a profile, even your own. Now you can tell your friends what you think of their plans and give them tips, or just tell them whan a great plan it is!

We've also added a new feature to all profile pages - an activity list. This activity list shows the last 10 interactions from the profile you're viewing. It shows what that profile has been up too on FutureYear. Whether its a new event added, a current event edited, or started tracking a new profile, or posted a comment to an event, it appears here in the activity list.

We've also been busy making it easier and simplier to add an event to your profile. Hopefully its now quicker and even more striaght forward to broadcast a plan you have coming up.

We have a lot more to come in the coming few days and weeks so stay posted! :)

Until next time...

New Design. Say hello to purple!

We've been busy working away to really give FutureYear the charimsa it deserves!

Say hello to purple, our new colour and new design for our welcome page. We've now made it easier to sign up or log in from the welcome page and included many great reasons why you should join FutureYear if you haven't already.

We've also been busy casting a new design over users' profile and home pages!

We have tons more features and improvments planned for the next few weeks so watch this space.

If you would like to give us any feedback on the design or any other part of the site please let us know on our community support page.
